About the boAt Rockerz 550 Brand

boAt is a lifestyle brand founded in 2016 that aims to cater to millennials with its audio products and accessories range. They have a significant share in the Indian earwear market and have been profitable for over five years.

boAt has been dominating the budget price segment across all categories, and their headphones are popular among users.

Who are These Headphones for?

Who are These Headphones for?

The Rockerz 550 are for everyone that have comfort as a high priority because these headphones are the comfiest ones you’ll come across. There are a lot of bluetooth and wired headphones available in the market but they cannot be worn for long periods of time.

If you are someone who likes to keep your headphones on throughout the day, then these will be perfect for you.

Important Factors We Tested These Headphones on

The three important claims that boAt made with the release of the headphones were most important to us when doing our research and testing.

They talk about the ergonomic design of the headphones, the 20-hour playback time, and the immersive sound experience that comes with 50 mm moving coil drivers.

We also needed to test these headphones on other features, such as comfort, durability, and performance. We tried these across different categories and will let you know how they perform in detail, so let’s find out.

1. Design

Design

These have an ergonomic design like boAt claims, meaning the design is efficient and comfortable. The overall design is slick with a clean texture, and the ear cups’ design is matte, giving a premium look. The boAt logo is inscribed in the middle of both ear cups.

These headphones are available in various color options, and boAt also keeps releasing new editions of them with different designs. You’ll have endless options when choosing a design for yourself.

A con in the design is that these headphones aren’t foldable, so you’ll need help traveling with them.

But overall, the design is excellent, and everyone would agree with us.

2. Durability

boAt has enhanced the quality by using a combination of plastic and aluminum for their build which is rare for a headphone in this price segment.

Most headphones offer plastic options in this range. Aluminum is used in the headband, and it provides extra flexibility. This material also increases the longevity of these headphones.

The headband is adjustable and can be adjusted to your preferred size. The build is overall sturdy and will last you a long time.

However, as they aren’t foldable, you need to be more careful with these and not put too much pressure on them.

3. Comfort

Comfort

The over-the-ear design makes them super comfortable to wear, and they come with large ear cups that will cover your entire ears comfortably. The ear cups’ padding is soft, making them comfortable to wear even after long hours.

The clamping force, which is the pressure with which headphones press onto your ears when you wear them, is low so that you won’t feel any pressure wearing them.

The headband padding is also soft. The earcups can be tilted slightly to adjust according to your comfort.

You can go long hours on these without any discomfort.

4. Battery Backup

boAt has provided a 500 mAh battery on these and claims a 20-hour battery backup. We wanted to test this claim and ran a test for one day, testing them out with different things and under various circumstances.

We were disappointed to find that these only lasted for 16 hours.

The headphones also come with a micro USB which doesn’t support fast charging.

They also take 3 to 4 hours to fully charge, which is another letdown. It has an LED light indicator to show when they are charged.

We recommend keeping an aux cable handy if you want to use these longer.

5. Sound Quality

Sound Quality

These headphones come with 50 mm moving coil drivers, which is rare for headphones under Rs 2000. Larger drivers can produce louder sounds more efficiently. This means that these headphones can get really loud without feeling uncomfortable. They’ll be great if you like to have your volume all the way up.

The Rockerz 550 makes for a decent sound experience, and you’ll have no trouble watching movies or listening to music on these.

There’s no distortion in sound, even at louder sound ranges. The listening experience is smooth and wouldn’t hurt your ears. The over-the-ear design, which fully covers your ears, also means that you get passive noise isolation with these.

6. Music Quality

The bass is good and not overdone. The treble is also good, and the highs and lows are clear. You also get clear vocals and instruments.

Call Quality

The mic works great during calls and captures less background noise indoors or outdoors. Call quality will not be an issue on these headphones.

Gaming Experience

The Gaming experience is decent on these as they provide low latency audio between 25 and 45 mm. We didn’t have any lag problems, but you can use this with its wire for no latency.

7. Features

The boAt rockerz 550 comes with a wide range of features. We are listing them down below

  • There are volume rockers on the side that you can use to adjust the volume.
  • They come with the latest version of Bluetooth 5.0 with a 10 meter range.
  • There’s a Micro USB port for charging. It also has an LED light indicator for when charging is complete.
  • Rockerz 550 has an IPX5 rating, making it suitable for sports and outdoor activities.
  • It offers a voice notification when you turn them on or off.
  • You can use the button on the side to take calls and turn the headphones on and off. It comes with voice assistance so you can use both Siri and Google Assistant.
  • There’s an AUX port that allows you to use these wired. This will come in handy when you’re running out of charge or want to avoid any lags during gaming.

Overall, the features are simplistic, but we would’ve liked to see more additions to the list.

8. Weight

Weight

These are relatively lightweight and do not feel bulky despite the over-the-ear design and large ear cup size.

You can easily carry these to the gym to power you through your workouts, or you can wear them all day for your gaming sessions. You’ll feel no discomfort with these.

9. Price

The official price is Rs 1999, but it tends to fluctuate, and you can get them for lower with added discounts.

The price that boAt offers for these headphones is good, and you will be satisfied purchasing them at that price.

What Sets Rockerz 550 Apart From Competitors?

What Sets Rockerz 550 Apart From Competitors?

Their comfort sets them apart from competitors. While other headphones in this range might perform better in specific categories, these are unbeatable for comfort.

The over-the-ear design makes up for greater comfort and a better listening experience by creating passive noise isolation.

Newer Editions Of The Rockerz 550

  • Portability:- These can’t be folded or rotated, which makes them difficult to carry around
  • No updates:- boAt has come out with newer editions of these but made no changes like changing the charging port.

Price

They come at the price of ₹1,999.00. However, they can be availed at a lower price during sales.
