Ear (1) featured ANC, a 34-hour battery life with the battery case, and 5.7 with ANC off. It featured a trio of ANC mics and two modes; maximum for loud environments and light for quieter ones. The transparency mode allowed ambient sounds to come through.

Ear (1) also had Bluetooth 5.2 and IPX4 water-resistant for protection against sweat and light water splashes.

Upgrades in Manufacturing and Production

Pei talked about having expanded his team since their first launch. “We have more staff, bigger engineering teams, which allows them to go much more in depth on every part of the product and make sure every part can perform to a high level,” Pei said in his interview with Forbes.

They increased their workforce by 30% since the launch of the Ear (1), the company mentions in a tweet.

Because of Ear (1) ’s success, they could get many more suppliers on board. The upgraded manufacturing allowed them to improve the water resistance of Ear (2), which has an IP54 rating.

Sound quality had been a priority for Nothing Inc. when coming up with Ear (2). They made their own custom audio driver that is thicker for better bass instead of getting something off the shelf.

Ear (2) also supports LHDC 5.0 streaming and Hi-Res audio. Sound quality is compressed in wireless connections. LHDC is Low Latency High-Definition Audio Codec that decompresses audio and streams hi-res audio, even over Bluetooth. It also comes with the addition of AAC and SBC codecs.

Ear (2) features the same transparent design seen across other Nothing products. The transparent design is essential to their brand identity as they can be recognized without even seeing the Nothing logo.

They also made changes in the case. Nothing’s team took feedback from Ear (1), with users saying the case was too big, and they’ve continued the design but made Ear (2) ’s case smaller.

Noise Cancellation

The Nothing Ear (2) has 40dB noise cancellation. They’ve increased the bandwidth for noise cancellation to 5000 hz, which is 2.5 times higher than Nothing Ear (1). This allows more audio frequencies to be captured and canceled for a better listening experience.

Ear (2) has three different levels of ANC to choose from and an Adaptive Mode that adjusts according to your environment.
