Today I’m reviewing a boult product as part of my TWS series. I had previously reviewed another product from them known as Boult Probass Ranger as part of my headphones review series. They had terrific sound quality, so I have high expectations going into reviewing Boult Audio X1.

They are a fairly simple pair of earbuds at first glance. However, X1 Buds have a reasonably compact case, and they also have a cool contemporary look.

Some of their features include Passive Noise Cancellation, IPX5 water resistance, and touch controls. I was also excited to test out their sound quality to determine how well they perform.

Want to know if Boult Audio X1 will be worth your money? Keep reading to find out.

About The Brand

Boult was started in 2017 by Varun Gupta. Varun was a digital marketer by profession, so he had prior knowledge related to marketing and how to grow a brand before starting his company.

Boult differentiated their products in design and has emerged as a popular brand in the audio segment.

Who is Boult Audio X1 Buds For?

Boult Audio X1 Buds are for people looking for compact earbuds that they can easily carry around and take on the go. These earbuds are not a great choice if you’re into music or gaming.

If you’re not too concerned about sound quality, these buds can be a decent option for multimedia use.

Important Factors We Tested Boult Audio X1 Buds on

Here are all the essential factors we tested Boult Audio X1 Buds on:

1. Design

Boult Audio X1 Buds Design

The case of Boult Audio X1 Earbuds is relatively compact compared to other TWS. You’ll find Boult text branding on the front of the case with a battery indicator light at the bottom. There’s a Type-C charging port at the bottom of the case. However, the reset button is missing since I couldn’t find it anywhere on the case.

My first impression of the earbuds was great. The design of the earbuds is quite cool, and you’ll get winged tips with them. Their design is quite contemporary and gives a modern feel.

Their stem sports a different colour and has Boult written on it. You’ll also get touch sensors and an indicator light. Both earbuds have a two-mic setup.

The colour combination is fantastic, and the earbuds also have a glossy look. This gives these earbuds a clean look. In my experience, the stem on them was slightly longer than other earbuds, but it’s not an issue.

The design is simple; it’s nothing extraordinary. If you’re big on design and it’s your top priority, then I would say you’ll find other options available in the market.

2. Durability

Boult Audio X1 Buds have an IPX5 rating, making them water and sweat-resistant. However, I still wouldn’t recommend them for going to the gym. They don’t have silicone ear tips, so their fit is not as secure. They might fall off during your workout, so you’ll be better off with a different earbud design.

I liked the build quality of the earbuds, and they also have a good feel. However, I cannot say the same about the charging case. I was not too fond of the magnet on the case. It didn’t feel sturdy and felt like it could break with usage.

I have also noticed this issue with other Boult products. Their sound quality is good, but the brand needs to improve in areas like Build Quality.

3. Sound Quality

Boult Audio X1 Buds Sound Quality

I mainly focused on listening to songs while testing Boult Audio X1 Buds. This is because I tried gaming on them, and the experience was horrible because of the high latency. I cannot recommend these earbuds for gaming. There are a lot of better options out there.

If you want earbuds for listening to music and multimedia, you can still consider these. When I was listening to songs on the earbuds, I felt that the vocals weren’t as clear. The vocals were okay, but you wouldn’t get as much clarity.

In my experience, the bass was also subdued. So, if you’re a bass lover, you’ll be disappointed.

The volume on these earbuds is good. If you listen to things at full volume, then you’ll get adequate sound, and it will also block off surround noises.

Coming to the treble, it was just okay. I didn’t get the clarity I usually get with other earbuds that have excellent treble.

Overall, the sound quality was just average. The quality isn’t excellent, but you can still get them if you’re not too focused on sound.

4. Functions And Connectivity

Boult Audio X1 Buds Functions And Connectivity

With Boult Audio X1, you’ll get a total battery backup of 24 hours which is quite average, in my opinion. You’ll get a playback of around 6 hours on the buds alone. You’ll find other affordable TWS with much better battery backups.

I decided to check out the battery’s claim during testing, and I got a battery backup of around 20 hours with the case on moderate usage.

The earbuds also come with a Type – C charging cable, so the charging time is faster than average.

These earbuds also come with touch controls, and they are quite simple.

Here are all the touch controls:

  • A single tap on any earbuds to play or pause music.
  • Double tap on the left earbud to go back to the previous track.
  • Double tap on the right earbuds to go to the next track.
  • If you want to receive an incoming call, single tap on any earbud.
  • If you want to reject an incoming call, double-tap on any earbud.
  • Press and hold any earbud for 3 seconds to activate the voice assistant.

These earbuds come with ENC, which works during calls. If there are any environmental sounds during calls, the earbuds cancel them out. This puts more focus on your voice and leads to clearer calls.

You’ll get auto pair instead of wake n pair, so it’s something to keep in mind. The pairing isn’t as quick as you’ll get with other earbuds. But it’s still good, and the earbuds will establish a connection with your device as soon as you take them out of the case.

Overall, the functions and connectivity felt okay but are still slightly outdated. In my opinion, the touch functions were slightly lacking because there aren’t that many.

5. Value For Money

These earbuds are currently retailing for Rs 1800, which is overpriced for what they offer. I would not recommend getting them at this price.

If you’re looking for better value-for-money options, so many options are available in the market that comes packed with features. I would not recommend these earbuds as they offer the bare minimum.

What Sets Boult Audio X1 Buds Apart From Competitors?

What Sets Boult Audio X1 Buds Apart From Competitors?

The size of Boult Audio X1 Buds differentiates them from other TWS in the market. These earbuds are quite compact, and the case is smaller than most other TWS.

If you are low on space and need something compact, they could be worth your time.

These earbuds also feature the half-in-ear design that a lot of people prefer. However, these earphones don’t have any differentiating factors when it comes to sound quality.

So I’d recommend steering away from them if sound quality is an essential factor for you.

Should You Purchase Boult Audio X1 Buds?

Should You Purchase Boult Audio X1 Buds?

Our clear answer would be no. Many options are available in the market, and Boult Audio X1 cannot justify its high price.

Their sound quality is below average, which is an area Boult should have focused on, if nothing else.

There are a lot of great TWS out there at a similar price range, so keep an eye out for more recommendations from us.

Conclusion

I had a lot of expectations going into reviewing Boult Audio X1 Buds, but these earbuds ended up letting me down. They have basic functions and features that can be found on any earbuds.

The sound quality was also a major letdown. The vocals weren’t as clear, and both the bass and treble were missing.

You cannot play games on these earbuds, and I tried and failed. They might be okay for multimedia and do have touch control, but their high price doesn’t justify how they function. You can get many earbuds in the market with much better sound quality.

If they were priced at around Rs 1000, they would’ve been a better value. But at this point, I cannot recommend getting them.

If you want better recommendations, keep an eye out for the rest of the products in our TWS series.
